Slack Integration Guide
Connect SimRelay to your Slack workspace to receive SMS notifications directly in Slack channels or as direct messages. Your team can lock SIM cards, receive verification codes, and manage SMS forwarding — all without leaving Slack.
Features
- SMS Notifications: Receive incoming SMS messages in designated Slack channels
- SIM Locking: Reserve a SIM card for exclusive access to receive verification codes privately
- Slash Commands: Manage SIM cards directly from Slack with
/simscommands - Direct Messages: When you lock a SIM, messages are delivered straight to your DMs
Getting Started
Step 1: Install the SimRelay Slack App
Click the button below to add SimRelay to your Slack workspace. You'll need to be a Slack workspace administrator.
Step 2: Link Your Account
After installing the app, link your Slack account to your SimRelay account:
- In any Slack channel, type
/sims link - Click the Link Account button that appears
- Log in to SimRelay if prompted
- Your accounts are now connected
Step 3: Configure Channel Notifications
Set up which Slack channels receive SMS notifications:
- Go to your SimRelay dashboard
- Navigate to Integrations > Slack
- Select the channel where you want to receive SMS notifications
- Assign SIM cards to the channel
Slash Commands
Use the /sims command to manage your SIM cards:
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
/sims list | Show all available SIM cards in your teams |
/sims lock <name> | Lock a SIM card for exclusive SMS access |
/sims unlock <name> | Release your lock on a SIM card |
/sims status <name> | Check the lock status of a SIM card |
/sims link | Link your Slack account to SimRelay |
/sims help | Show all available commands |
Smart Matching
You don't need to type the full SIM name. SimRelay supports partial matching:
/sims lock fin— matches "Finance"/sims lock prod— matches "Production"/sims lock 1234— matches a number ending in 1234
If multiple SIMs match your search, you'll be asked to be more specific.
How SIM Locking Works
When you need to receive a verification code or OTP:
- Type
/sims lock <name>to lock the SIM card - All SMS messages to that number are now delivered to you as direct messages
- The lock automatically expires after a few minutes
- Other team members see that the SIM is locked and by whom
- Type
/sims unlock <name>to release early, or let it expire
This prevents verification codes from being seen by the entire channel when you need them privately.
Troubleshooting
"Please link your account first"
Your Slack account isn't connected to SimRelay yet. Type /sims link and follow the instructions.
"No SIM cards found"
You might not be a member of any teams with SIM cards assigned. Contact your SimRelay administrator to add you to a team.
"SIM is locked by someone else"
Another team member is currently using that SIM. Wait for their lock to expire or ask them to unlock it.
Messages not appearing
- Make sure the SimRelay bot is invited to the channel
- Check that the channel is configured in your SimRelay dashboard
- Verify your Slack integration is active in SimRelay settings
Privacy & Security
- SMS content is delivered in real-time and not stored permanently
- Locked SIM messages are sent as private direct messages
- Only team members with access to a SIM can see its messages
- Your Slack credentials are never stored — we use secure OAuth tokens
